Payments Association of South Africa
The Payments Association of South Africa (PASA) is the governing body that regulates payment systems in South Africa. PASA is authorised by the South African Reserve Bank to regulate, monitor and control payment systems in South Africa and to ensure that all transactions are secure and effective.
As PASA members, DMC is subject to the PASA Code of Conduct, which sets out the standards and requirements for the collection of debt in South Africa. We are committed to providing the highest standards of service and compliance.
Prescription occurs when a consumer has not acknowledged the debt or made a payment for 3 uninterrupted years. Prescription is a defense in law that can be used against liability for the debt.
Once prescription has been raised, the necessary investigations are done to determine whether or not the account is prescribed. If the account is prescribed, you as the customer will be notified and will no longer be liable to pay. If the debt is not prescribed, you will however be liable to make payments. If necessary, the investigation may be referred to the courts for a final decision.
